Must hold NZ Diploma of Teaching (Primary) L7, Bachelor degree L7 (360 credits), Bachelor Honours L8 (480 credits), or Master's L9 (240 credits), or equivalent. Requires written professional reference, personal interview demonstrating professional qualities, Literacy and Numeracy Adults Assessment Step 5 in both, te reo Māori competency Level 1 (Te Aho Arataki Marau), NZ Police vetting report, and overseas police certificates for international applicants.

English requirements

“Applicants must provide evidence of meeting English language requirements according to the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand's English language proficiency requirements. International applicants must also meet English language requirements according to Rule 22 of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority Programme Approval, Recognition, and Accreditation Rules 2025.”
