Accessibility

Built to be used by everyone

Most of the people using Enrolmate are reading English as a second language, often on a phone, sometimes on a slow connection. Accessibility isn’t a checkbox for us. It’s the core audience.

Our aim

We work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard used across the New Zealand public sector. We don’t claim to be perfect, but we treat accessibility barriers as bugs and fix them.

What we do

  • Plain language. Status and instructions are written for people reading English as a second language, with short sentences and no jargon.
  • Keyboard first. Every interactive control is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
  • Semantic structure. Real headings, landmarks, labels and lists, so screen readers can navigate the page.
  • Readable contrast. Text colours are chosen to meet AA contrast on both light and dark backgrounds.
  • Respecting your settings. Animations are reduced or removed when your device requests reduced motion, and the site works in your browser’s light or dark theme.
  • Works on modest devices. Pages are light and responsive, and the public catalogue is cached so it loads quickly on slow connections.

Known limitations

Course information is extracted from providers’ own websites; where a provider’s source page is unclear, our summary can be too. Some third-party documents (for example a scanned PDF a student uploads) may not be fully accessible. We’re steadily improving both.

Tell us about a barrier

If something is hard or impossible to use, please tell us what you were trying to do and what got in the way. Email contact@enrolmate.io and we’ll respond within one business day and prioritise a fix.
